British Guild of Travel Writers Association makes historic first visit to Sri Lanka

Daily FT: In a landmark moment for Sri Lanka’s tourism sector, a delegation of veteran travel media journalists from the most renowned British Guild of Travel Writers (BGTW) Association in the UK has arrived in Sri Lanka, making a historic first visit to the country.
The group, comprising over 30 veteran UK-based travel journalists and media professionals, commenced a week-long expedition to Sri Lanka’s diverse attractions.
The group was warmly welcomed by the officials of Sri Lankan Tourism upon arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).
The visit, organised and hosted by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), forms part of a broader strategy to boost Sri Lanka’s visibility in the high-potential UK travel market. The SLTPB is confident that this initiative will certainly attract the focus of UK travellers on Sri Lanka, including key travel partners in the UK.

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is on a steady growth path with indications of further growth as Sri Lanka is being identified as a must visit tourist destination by many leading global publications. The country’s tourism authorities have also hosted many media personnel from many foreign countries to experience what Sri Lanka has on offer for tourists. The many tourism concepts presented by Sri Lanka along with the promotional campaigns held by Sri Lankan tourism authorities in key foreign tourist source markets have also given a boost to the growth in the country’s tourism industry. However, all these developments indicate the expansion of business/investment opportunities in the tourism industry as well. These opportunities are manifold, ranging from the development of infrastructure and supplementary infrastructure facilities covering many sectors related to the tourism industry. The leisure and hospitality sectors are key among these sectors that have presented many business/investment opportunities. The growing business potential in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is evident by the interest shown by many foreign businesses/investors, especially international leisure and hospitality brands, to do business in the industry. All these developments clearly indicate the growth as well as growth potential recorded by Sri Lanka’s tourism industry and related sectors that could present lucrative business ventures for foreign businesses/investors.
