Sri Lanka has won the title as the top travel destination in Asia in 2017, at the World Travel Awards Asia & Australasia 2017 held in Shanghai. Sri Lanka also won the top position as the Asia’s Leading Adventure Tourism Destination 2017 as well alongside the top travel destination title.
According to the Arthur C Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies (ACCIMT) Sri Lanka can benefit in a wide range of areas using satellite data and the sheer number of potential uses by which the national hub could be utilized for advancement of many sectors in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka is aiming to become a tourist hub and the government is planning to achieve a target of 4.5 million tourist arrivals by the year 2020. The number of tourist arrivals have increased in recent years and to support further tourist arrivals Sri Lankan government has engaged in a number of projects that will foster and support a thriving tourism industry.
Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickramasinghe, stated that ‘Belt and Road’ complements the vision of Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka will receive 2 Billion Yuan ( 290 million US Dollars) as a development assistance for the period form 2018- 2020.
