Sri Lanka had previously expected New Zealand to be the first foreign sporting visit, when they arrive next month to play two Tests and three Twenty20 matches, foreign news agency AFP has reported.
The AFP news report has stated that the first Test between New Zealand and Sri Lanka will begin on August 14 in Galle while the final Test match will be played in Colombo’s P. Sara stadium from August 22.
The SLC has stated that the first two T20 games will be in Colombo on August 31 and September 2 at the Premadasa Stadium while the final match will be on September 6 in Kandy.

OSL take:

The tours of the Bangladesh and New Zealand cricket teams in Sri Lanka between the months of July and August would definitely have a positive impact on Sri Lanka’s tourism industry. The visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Sri Lanka recently gave a confidence boost to foreigners to visit Sri Lanka following the blow suffered by the country in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday attacks. Foreign countries have relaxed travel advisories issued on Sri Lanka and several international airlines have announced the resumption of flights to Sri Lanka. Globally renowned Lonely Planet continues to maintain Sri Lanka as the destination of the year 2019. Therefore, it is evident that Sri Lanka is a safe place to visit. Also, foreign businesses/investors could look at the continuously increasing number of tourists to the country and explore business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry.
