The meeting was attended by, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) Director General Upali Rathnayake, Ella Pradeshiya Saba Chairman and other stakeholders.
Rathnayake has reportedly assured that the SLTDA expected the relevant gazette notification designating Ella as a tourist zone to be released in the next two months.
Fernando, who represents the Badulla District, has noted to the media an urgent need for the regulation through the SLTDA to prevent any unfortunate incidents in the area.

OSL take:

The declaration of Ella as a new tourist zone would result in an increase in the number of tourist zones in the country. Sri Lanka’s tourism sector is experiencing a continuous growth and Ella is famous for eco as well as adventure tourism. Foreign businesses engaged in the leisure sector could explore business opportunities in the Ella area.
