Sri Lanka records 19 percent increase in tourist arrivals in June 2018 from a year earlier

Sri Lankan government data has reportedly recorded that the country’s tourist arrivals have increased by 19.0 percent to 146,828 in June 2018 from a year ago. The two largest source markets India and China are reportedly topping the list of tourist arrivals.
Almost 98 percent of tourists travelled by air to Sri Lanka, statistics have also recorded.
According to reports, as at 31st June 2018, 1,164,647 tourists had visited Sri Lanka for this year, a rise of 15.3 percent over last year when 1,010,444 tourists visited the country.
Reports have further stated that Asia and Pacific continued to be the largest source of tourist traffic to Sri Lanka with 58 percent of the total traffic received in June 2018.
Europe accounted for 28 percent of the total traffic, America 7 percent, Middle East 6 percent and Africa 1 percent.

The latest tourist arrival records are indicative of the continuously growing tourism industry in Sri Lanka. The increase in Indian and Chinese visitors to Sri Lanka could be considered as an ideal opportunity to penetrate the trade markets in the two countries through businesses based in Sri Lanka. Also, the growth in the tourism sector makes it an ideal field for investments by foreign businesses/investors.
