Ambassador of China optimistic of creating opportunities through belt-road

Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Yi Xianliang says that China remained dedicated to consolidating interchanges and collaborations within the South Asian region as it belonged to the region.
He made these observations addressing the opening of the International Conference on China in South Asia/South Asia in China: OBOR and the Sri Lankan Experience.
The conference was attended by around thirty renowned Chinese and Sri Lankan think-tank professionals and Sri Lankan-based foreign diplomats.
“China and South Asian countries have witnessed a long history of friendly exchanges. Nowadays, cooperation between China and South Asia in politics, economy and trade, culture, education and tourism has further deepened,” Ambassador Yi said.
The Embassy of China in Sri Lanka believes that the Belt and Road project will create many prospects to promote shared development between China and other countries in South Asia, and expressed its desire to see all South Asian nations make a united effort to discover avenues of fortifying joint support in order accomplish a mutually beneficial setting for the region’s entire population.
The Regional Centre for Strategic Studies was inaugurated in Colombo 25 years ago in 1992 and is predominantly concerned with conducting studies on South Asian regional collaboration. In 2016 the centre started the International Conference on China in South Asia/South Asia in China and for the duration of the 2-day-long session attendees tradedobservations on areas such as maritime security, economic development, governance and politics, business opportunities, environment and culture and the most suitable way to proceed in future.

OSL TAKE:

The Belt and Road Initiative is expected to possibly become the biggest infrastructure project ever involving 68 countries around the world resurrecting the old “Silk Road” that used to link Europe and Asia.
The objective of the initiative is to make economic and trade activities along the route dynamic and vigorous once again establishing it as the world’s most dominant trading area.
The Belt and Road Initiative will complement the government of Sri Lanka’s aim of establishing Sri Lanka as a global hub and also open avenues for innumerable opportunities.
